Departure from Lisbon. Arrival, check-in and dinner. Welcome dinner.
Accommodation: Cortijo Bacares.
In the first part of the trip we will stay in a typical farmhouse. Our choice for this farm, located in the Natural Park of Sierra de Baza, is the comfort of having common areas that we can use to live and finish drawings at the end of the day.
The farm has a swimming pool, which we can enjoy to refresh us on this trip in late August.
TOPIC: THE IBEROS AND THE BAZA GIRL
The morning of this day will be to know a little of the city of Baza, where the local Archaeological Museum is located, passing through the recently restored Arab baths, and getting to know the popular tradition of the Cascamorras.
We can draw some quick notes of the architecture, from which stand out examples of 16th century palaces, Arab bathhouses, and medieval streets.
In the museum we will give an introduction to the indigenous peoples who occupied the south of the peninsula in the recent prehistory, about 5000 years ago: Chalcolithic, argar culture, Iberians.
Free time to draw in the Museum the fantastic find of the Lady of Baza, or to draw in the historical center.
In the afternoon we will visit the recently inaugurated CIYA - Center for Interpretation of Archaeological Reserves of Baza, impressive in the use of interactive technology.
We will have the opportunity to attend a formal presentation by Guida Casella on interpretation and communication of archaeological sites, which will give us a basis to critically appreciate the various museographic proposals of this trip.
The rest of the afternoon is free to draw either in the museum or in the archaeological park around.
At the end of the day, back to the farm, we will have an Andalusian cooking workshop in the common area.
THEME: MEGALITISM AND BADLANDS
On this day we leave early for the Megalithic Park of Gorafe, beginning with a visit to the Center for Interpretation of Megalithism, with an impressive immersive and interactive museography.
At the end of the visit, Pepe Vico shares his photographs of the region and gives a lecture on light and composition, transversal elements to the drawing and photography. Inspired by these ways of seeing, we spent the rest of the morning drawing outdoors in the Megalithic Park.
Then we will go to the Alicun spa park, where we will have a picnic followed by a walk along a fantastic geological formation, where thermal waters flow. In this park it is possible to contemplate and to draw not only the landscape on the surrounding valley, tapirs, water course, and houses excavated in the rock.
Free time to draw until we have the end of day light on the Badlands Canyon, which we will observe and draw until the sun goes down. Dinner at local restaurant.
Return to accommodation.
THEME: NEOLITHIC PEOPLE
On this day we begin by visiting the Interpretation Center Los first settlers of Europe Josep Guibert, where is the oldest hominid skull of Europe.
We then go to the archaeological site Castellon Alto, a Neolithic settlement, where after the visit to the Interpretation Center, we will have the morning to draw.
Then we will visit the Iberian necropolis of Tutugi, where the Goddess of Gorafe was found. After lunch we will have time to see and draw a village of cave houses, and we will go to the Al Jatib cave houses where we can enjoy this architecture, having free time to use the hamman and the swimming pool.
Dinner at local restaurant and return to accommodation.
THEME: NATURAL LANDSCAPE AND PITORESCAS VILLAGES
This day is dedicated to the natural landscape of the Natural Park of Baza, and to the picturesque village of Castril that develops around a medieval monastery located on top of a cliff with 500 meters of height.
We will have time for observation and drawing of the village, following a walk along a river with many interesting motifs for drawing. Lunch will be at Molino de la Cerrada, adjacent to the water course.
In the afternoon we return to the lodge with the afternoon free to enjoy the Hamman or finish the records in the notebooks. Dinner at local restaurant and return to accommodation.
